Baby Naming Ceremonies
Give Your Child a Personal Welcoming
There’s no such thing as a typical family so why have a typical ceremony? A Naming ceremony is a moving and meaningful way of gathering those people that are important to you to celebrate the arrival of your child and to tell the world about your commitment and love. A secular ceremony is a great alternative to a religious ceremony, opening up opportunities to celebrate a new life, welcome an adopted child to the family or to celebrate the creation of a new family unit when two families come together, you may also wish to include other children who may not have previously had a naming ceremony. Supporting adults are an alternative to Godparents (and yes, you can choose what you want to call them) Grandparents or friends can promise their commitment and ongoing support. Whichever way you decide to mark the occasion I can help you to make it beautiful, personal and memorable.
Hi Liz, everybody loved yesterday. Such a great day and very emotional! I can’t believe how vocal she (Ava) was, it was hilarious!! She is never usually that loud! I think she had a brill time though, we all did. Everyone commented on how wonderful the ceremony was and how warm and lovely you were. Can’t thank you enough. the day exceeded our expectations and we will remember if forever. Ellie & Jon x
Naming Ceremonies have been around for years, often happening in people’s own homes. Unlike the legal requirement to register the birth, there is no legal requirement to have a naming ceremony or for it to be held at a religious venue or a Registry Office, which opens up lots of opportunities for a personalised celebration at a venue chosen by you. Many people prefer to celebrate the birth of their child by having a secular ceremony which can be completely non religious or can include an element of religion. The content is tailored to suit your personal preferences and beliefs making the occasion meaningful and personal which means that your ceremony won’t be a standard off the peg occasion, it will be unique to you and yours.
Why Choose A Secular Ceremony?
People choose secular ceremonies for lots of different reasons. They might have already been to a naming ceremony and loved it so much they decided to have one when their child was born. Others have had a Civil Wedding and felt they wanted to do the same for their child, involving important people and strengthening bonds. You can choose your own words, readings, vows, poems, music, weaving in your history, the reason that you chose the name or are having the ceremony e.g. welcoming an adopted or stepchild. You can include special symbolism, the choice really is yours. Every ceremony is designed with you in mind, meeting the individual needs of the family. It provides the opportunity for parents to announce the names that have been chosen and to make promises of commitment to nurture and support the child into adulthood.
Thank you Liz for making our daughters (Double) naming ceremony a wonderful day, the ceremony was everything we wanted and more! Thank you for getting to know my family and therefore making the ceremony so personal to us, I would highly recommend Liz as a celebrant, for a personal and stress free service. Abi & Lee Newman xx
